The Casnovia Township Fire Department as well as other Departments are required to have knowledge of hazardous materials stored or used in commercial and farm facilities where they may respond in an emergency.

MIOSHA requires that the Fire Department prepare and train each firefighter of the departments responsibilities when responding to facilities within its jurisdiction that use, produce,or store hazardous materials. This requirement is to ensure the safety of firefighters and allow responders to serve our community in a more effective manner.

The first attached document is a copy of the rules that the fire department must follow. This is called Fire Marshal Bulletin number 9.

The second attached document is the survey form that facilities are required to complete advising the Department of the hazardous materials.

Casnovia Township Fire Department requests that Represenitives of the Company/Farm located in our jurisdiction complete the survey and keep it updated on the inventories. Once you have the survey completed please e-mail it firechief@castwp.com

Once we have them we will review them and keep copies available for our responders so they can review them should they be responding to a call for service involving such hazards.

Thank You in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

RE: First Death from COVID-19 in Jurisdiction

Release Date: March 29, 2020

The Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) received notification late last night (March 28, 2020) of the first local death attributed to COVID-19. The individual was an elderly male who was admitted to McLaren Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant on March 21st with severe symptoms.

“We wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to the family who has lost their loved one,” said Steve Hall, Health Officer at CMDHD. “This is a tragic reminder of how serious a threat COVID-19 is to our community.” CMDHD reminds everyone that in this difficult time it is critical that we protect each other, support each other, and work together to slow the spread of this virus. It’s important for residents to be aware of the virus and the efforts necessary to prevent its spread.

As this situation continues to evolve, we ask all of our residents to take the appropriate precautions. Strong community mitigation and prevention measures are already in place, and we urge residents to continue to follow recommendations:

  • Stay at home. Do not leave home except for essential tasks such as getting groceries or seeking medical care.
  • If you must go out, stay at least 6 feet away from others and avoid any gatherings.
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least twenty seconds.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Disinfect commonly touch surfaces.
  • Check on others. Call your loved ones and neighbors who are most at risk and see how they are doing. If they require something essential, see how you can help.

We are pleased to announce that our annual Fireman's Ham Supper is back. It will be held on the first Saturday in October.  We will be having a silent auction.
